Uh-oh! The little owl has fallen out of his nest. Where is mommy now? Squirrel will help him, but then little owl has to give the right directions ... In the end, luckily all of it is fine, with a nice cookie!
A small owl falls asleep from the nest on the soft soil of the forest. Squirrel wants to help him find his mom. The instructions of the owl are limited and so they end up a few times with a wrong mother. Meanwhile, mom is also looking. All ends well, even though the funny ending is a surprise. The illustrations, in muted colors, are sleek and sober and made in a digital collage-like technique, with simple shapes and stylized figures. The prints have more to offer than seems at first sight: panoramic images of the forest, the staged fall of the owlet, the back and forth running of the squirrel and the owlet, the hidden silhouettes of some animals, including mum. The flat figures are nevertheless lively due to a strong body language and the position of the eyes. The composition is very well thought out. The alternation of plates with a white background for the dialogues and colorful overview sheets for the action, gives dynamism to the story. The striking, angular letter is alternately printed in white or green. A funny, fine picture book, selected as picture book of the year 2012.
